August 9, 2009 – 12:00 pmKath and Dan are back with a regular TV Talk Podcast about all things summer TV and vampire! That’s right, we’re vamp crazy so there’s plenty of talk about TRUE BLOOD, BEING HUMAN, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and more.
Also on tap, BIG BROTHER 11, NURSE JACKIE, ENTOURAGE, WAREHOUSE 13, REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA, GREEK, PSYCH, SKINS plus an update on PROJECT SUPERNATURAL.

Daphne took Sam’s spot as a sacrifice.
Love the show too. Funny though that the Sookie/Bill relationship is the least interesting part of the show.

Missed you guys! Lost track of you went you went into the SYTYCD tangent.
I know you got a good response from those ‘casts but maybe there is not a lot of crossover for fans of scripted TV vs reality TV?
Anyhow I now have your twitter feed for the casts and will be back on the beam with future installments.
Keep up the great work!
By OldDarth on Aug 9, 2009
Old Darth – It hasn’t been that long since we did a non-SYTYCD podcast. We posted one on July 29th and before that July 14th. We’ve been more consistent with regular podcasts this summer than we have been over the past 2 years.
And there is large crossover. Maybe not for you, and that’s fine, but we get a great response from our SYTYCD podcasts.
Think of it this way, if Dan and I weren’t getting together to talk SYTYCD, then we wouldn’t be doing any non-SYTYCD podcasts either. Ha ha!

I listened to this right after watching this weeks episode of True Blood and I can’t wait to hear what y’all have to say about it. The episodes just get better every week! Especially for a huge Eric fan like myself.
I’m super excited to know that someone else is watching Being Human. I understand your hesitation after the the premiere, but 3 eps in, I’m loving it! At least with BBC shows, since they’ve already run overseas, I don’t have to worry about the show getting canceled mid- season. Have you guys kept watching and if so are you enjoying it more?
By Emily on Aug 9, 2009
I’m glad you’re covering Being Human. It’s my favorite of the summer. Watch the rest of the episodes, it does get better. I started watching because of Aidan Turner, but I kept watching due to the talented Russell Tovey.

LOVING all the RT’s! You guys are rock stars. Keep it going. For everyone that RTs, you’re going to get some special lovin’ from Dan and I in the next podcast.
And we finally hit 125 reviews in iTunes! Thanks to you all. Our next goal is 150 — make it happen!!

I don’t watch True Blood primarily because I don’t get HBO, but listening to you guys talk about it certainly makes me interested. It sounds like a good time.
And, I am so with you on the Body Politic thing. Just knowing the cast and the general plot was enough to get me hooked without ever seeing a scene. I was SO disappointed it didn’t get picked up. So, yeah, I too would love to hear why exactly they made that decision.
I mean, I get that the CW wants to be known as the young, hip, cool network or whatever. But they really must think all the people in their preferred demographic (including myself at 19) are only interested in vapid people doing vapid things. You can attract the young demo while still having a touch of depth, CW. And Body Politic seemed like the perfect opportunity.
With that said, I’m totally excited about Vampire Diaries! (Everyone’s gotta get in the shallow end of the pool sometimes, right?). It’s nice to hear you guys liked it so much!

I gave up on True Blood a few weeks ago, but you’re starting to make me want to watch it again… maybe, I found myself not really paying attention to the show while I had it on so I don’t know if I want to try it again.
I watched Skins when it aired in the UK, and I didn’t really like series 3 at first, I missed the old cast, but the new cast did grow on me after a while. I actually really liked Freddie’s storyline and Emily’s too.
I’m liking Warehouse 13, and also Royal Pains for new shows this summer. Also, Mental has sort of grown on me, I know you guys don’t talk about it, but have you heard whether or not it’s going to come back next summer or anything?
Also I wanted to say even though you didn’t talk about it this week, thanks again for talking up Glee so much! I’ve watched that online like 10 times this summer. It just makes me happy
Hoping to hear more about it in the fall!
By Jenn on Aug 10, 2009
I love your regular podcasts as well as your SYTYCD ones, even though I don’t really watch any of the shows you do. True Blood sounds so good, but I don’t get HBO and am poor. I’m thinking of reading the books though.
Your description of Body Politic sounded awesome, and I’m bummed that the CW passed on it. The only CW show I watch is Gossip Girl, and even that’s more of a guilty pleasure…Do networks keep pilots in consideration for the next year, or once they are passed on is it over?
I can’t wait for your “What to Watch This Fall” podcast. I always try to pick up a couple new shows each season, but normally they get canceled throughout the year.
By Dawn on Aug 10, 2009
I have to talk to Dan, but I think it could be cool if we dedicate one podcast to each network’s Fall lineup. So one podcast would be all The CW pilots, another would be all Fox. Thoughts on that? Or would you like one podcast that focuses in on our favorites?
By Kath on Aug 10, 2009
This is possibly a dumb question but, Ducky, do you know when you get the Supernatural screener for this year?
By Ren on Aug 10, 2009
Not gonna lie, I’m getting pretty creeped out by your obession with Twilight. I’ve always respected your tastes in shows, so it baffles me that that you two are sucked into this series. I have , unfortunately, read the first one, and I’m still angry with myself for wasting hrs of my life.
So this leads to my question about True Blood. Do you think your love for Twilight (vampires) has caused your love for True Blood, and if it wasn’t for Twilight would you think True Blood is good as it is?
By Britt on Aug 10, 2009
Britt, there is no chance in hell that TWILIGHT has an impact on my love for TRUE BLOOD. We fully acknowledge that Twilight sucks but we enjoy it for being so damn bad. I personally have always had a love of all things vamp and thankfully True Blood is excellent. Win Win!
By Ducky on Aug 10, 2009
I think a podcast about each networks seasons is brills! Do it!
I am on board to give True Blood a second chance because, I think it was Kath, said it took her a couple of tries to get into it. I watch part of the first season and didn’t love it. I didn’t hate it either. Now that it’s available on DVD (my favorite way yo watch TV!) I am going to give it another try.
I am also a longtime vampire groupie and usually will watch anything with vampires so while I am not a fanatic about Twilight (like some people and I am talking about my movie partner not Kath)I am super excited about Vampire Diaries! I know almost nothing about it but I will be watching. Although,I am not sure I need anything else on my Thursday night show list dammit!
Oh! Warehouse 13, like it don’t love it but I love the FEEL of it. Does that make sense? It has a cool vibe to it although I am not sure about the new chick they added last week.
By Patty on Aug 10, 2009
I think you guys are fantastic, the best tv podcast find I ever stumbled upon. With a very few exceptions you guys watch exactly the same shows I watch, even the ones my friends roll their eyes at!! I also love that being a Boston girl myself I totally get your occasional Boston related commentary both on the podcast and on twitter.
Even though I am much more of an ABDC girl than a SYTYCD fan (I tried but for some reason when I flick channels during commercials I never remember to go back) I still listen to your podcasts because you guys are hilarious and get me through the T ride to work!! SO THANKS!!! And thanks for turning me on to GREEK, TRUE BLOOD and can’t wait to find out what you guys are into for the FALL.. sooo excited for GLEE!!!

I just stumbled across this podcast, I can tell I’ll be a regular listener!
I am both a True Blood and a GREEK fan (among many other shows!!). Eric has definitely become my new favourite TB character this season. I am liking Hoyt/Jessica so far too.
I *love* GREEK! It’s really such a great show, I recently rewatched all of it again and loved it the second time through too. More people need to watch it, and I’ve gotten a few hooked myself. I am very much looking forward to the new season, especially after hearing this podcast. Cappie and Beaver are so hilarious, and I’m rooting for Cappie and Casey!
By LB on Aug 10, 2009
Ducky,I love that you admit that Twilight really kinda sucks because I just read the first book earlier this summer and it was definitely geared for the teens and not me. I got so sick of reading the bajillion different adjectives for the word COLD. We get it, move on. I really don’t do sci-fi or vampire crap at all, but I read it just to see what everyone is talking about. Still wondering. Do I waste time on the second book? The bright side is that I found it a really quick read because you can scan over 1/3 of the words since they are all variations of the word….wait for it….COLD.
I watch a lot of shows, but I have a feeling that you guys talk more about the ones that Kath watches than the ones that you watch. Whenever you bring up something that she has no input on, it seems to be a show that I watch. (skype me guys, I’ll help convert Kath to other shows!) The CW seems like a tween/teen channel, so my remote doesn’t stop there. SYTYCD is the only Fox show I watch. I’m more of a USA, TNT regular in the summer. Plus all the poker shows, which I’m sure is right up your alley! lol
Every time I hit play on the podcast I look first to see how long it will be and I’m usually bummed to see that they are around 30-40 min. That’s not very long when we have 8+hr work days people! Just riff on the forum comments for a while, that should get you to at least an hour!
By Toast With JAM on Aug 11, 2009
Listening to the podcast this morning at work. I just wanted to say that I love the chapter markers! Especially because I don’t watch a lot of summer shows and I can skip to the parts that I do know a little something about, like Supernatural. But I do go back and listen to the whole thing later because I just love to hear you guys talk. You’re hilarious. I was really appreciating the chapter markers when I was going back in old podcasts and listening to you talk about Friday Night Lights, now that I’m all caught up and wouldn’t spoil myself. It was hard work to try to find the FNL segments, and now with the chapter markers I will be able to go back and listen to my favorite parts more easily!
The Body Politic sounded amazing. I would have watched it just from the draw of the cast alone. Annoying that the CW chose Melrose Place and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz over the Body Politic!
I wanted to let you know that I tried Greek. I was intrigued by past podcasts and when Rush Week started I figured I had better take the plunge so I could catch up before the new season started. Well, I watched four episodes and I didn’t really like it. I didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t get hooked. It makes me feel weird because I trust your opinions so much. You brought me so many shows and I have loved all of them. I guess I don’t really like Rebecca’s character and what it does to Casey and Frannie. I know that’s supposed to be the draw, the cattiness of it all, but I just couldn’t take it. Does it get better, should I keep watching? Because I think I will get more and more frustrated with the backstabbing. I do love the wittiness of the show though. I can see why you like it.
By Kristen on Aug 11, 2009
Ducky- Thank God, I thought you were into them because you thought they were actually good. But I’m all for craptastic guilty pleasures (Gossip Girl anyone?) so have at it : )
By Britt on Aug 11, 2009
Britt-always remember that taste is subjective. And as long as you’re not talking about Dancing with the Stars you shouldn’t judge. Ha ha!! I am 10o% obsessed with Twilight. I won’t deny it. Do I think it’s quality writing? Nope. Do I think it’s a compelling story? Maybe. There’s something there. But Dan and I just have fun with it on the podcast. It’s a bit of a game fitting in a Twilight mention. Lol!
Kristen- no worries about Greek. It doesn’t have to be for everyone. I hated Beccs at first too. Now I j’adore the little tramp. Thanks for giving it a try though.
All these comments? You guys are rock stars!
By Kath on Aug 11, 2009
Perhaps I will give Greek another try. I’m finishing work for the summer this Friday and I will have three weeks of nothing before I go to study abroad. Perhaps Greek will find its way back onto my computer, thanks to Hulu now! Kudos to Dan for tweeting that key info.
By Kristen on Aug 11, 2009
I feel like I’m late to the party! Definitely not due to lack of interest, but I sort of listened to this podcast in bits and pieces, and didn’t want to comment until I heard it all.
Your love of True Blood makes me want to see it so bad! Is it available on non-cable? Or any chance of a regular station picking it up for a run? I know you mentioned the first season is up on DVD, so I might check that out at some point. I am a fan of vampire shows, ones I consider “old school”, like Forever Knight (a Canadian show from the early 90s), and Buffy/Angel, so I’m sure I’d enjoy True Blood. I also want to check out Vampire Diaries, and see that one of our local Canuck stations has picked it up for the Fall, and has started running promos.
Body Politic sounds fantastic! I was a viewer of the “old CW” (aka The WB) when it was airing Dawson’s, Roswell, Buffy, etc. It’s a shame Body Politics wasn’t picked up. This might be a dumb-viewer question, but … what does this non-pick up mean? Does it mean the show is done? Or can it still get picked up elsewhere, or in the future?
I, for one, would LOVE if you guys did a Fall Preview podcast, maybe one for each network with new shows, returning shows, etc. Giving us a head’s up on what you’ll be watching. Is that too much?? I remember when GMMR did the network’s new shows on her site, a long, long time ago. It was awesome, and I remember seeing shows and thinking, “that looks GOOD!” but now I can’t remember them! So definitely a podcast to refresh my memory would be greatly appreciated!
By Kimber on Aug 11, 2009
I wasn’t really “into” Greek until I could watch it on DVD. It moved a little slowly at first and I didn’t like Casey or Beccs. It’s interesting how my feeling for characters have changed since the beginning. Well, except for Cappie because well? Love him!
By Patty on Aug 11, 2009
hi guys, been a silent listener for ages. look forward to every non-show specific podcast you do. I think the show is great. Though you do get a little bit obsessed and focused on certain show (True Blood, Lost). But I think that’s sweet regardless.
Please keep it going. You guys are top notch!
By Marc Moose on Aug 11, 2009
I really enjoyed the latest podcast, as usual. Just wanted to comment that I really enjoy listening to all the Twilight obsession talk, and I’m NOT a Twilight fan. I’ve read all the books, but they weren’t really my cup of tea. I actually enjoyed The Vampire Diaries more, but my faves are the Sookie Stackhouse books (I would love to hear your thoughts on those).
I also love listening to the SYTYCD stuff, even though I’ve never seen the show. Your discussion of it never fails to amuse. Point is, the subjective quality of the literary and tv material doesn’t change the quality of the podcast, which is awesome.
The only thing that makes me sad is that you guys don’t seem to love Dollhouse, but I can live with that
By Lucia on Aug 11, 2009
Hey guys,
Love your work. Just listened to the podcast, really good episode I thought.
You asked what you should do to get more listeners. Well for me, the thing that stops me recommending you to alot of my friends is that I’m never sure when the next one is going to be.
If it was regular, every week would be awesome but if you cant do that, then every fortnight or even every month… as long as it is regular, it would make all the difference. Then I could atleast say, ‘they only do it once a month but its a great podcast and you should listen’. Rather than, ‘its a great podcast but im not sure when the next one will be or even if there will actually be a next one’.
Also, I really think you should put the SYTYCD podcast in a separate feed, because that also stops me recommending it. You have to really love the show to listen to a whole podcast about it. If I was to tell some1 that doesn’t like SYTYCD to listen to tv talk, and they go and subscribe, and the first one they get is a SYTYCD one, it would probably put them off the podcast altogether.
By cobbly on Aug 12, 2009
Thanks for the feedback, Cobbly. Definitely things to consider. We’ve been really trying to be more consistent as of late. And we’ll do our best into the Fall season. We live about 30 minutes away from each other now, but we’re trying!
By Kath (GMMR) on Aug 12, 2009
Good to hear Kath, and I see you guys have already done another one. I always love seeing TV talk start downloading when I refresh my podcast list, so im really glad to see that happening more often now.
Just on the distance problem, have you guys ever considered using skype? So you don’t necessarily have to be in the same room, might make things a bit easier.
