June 23, 2010 – 10:24 pm

It’s the first TV Talk Podcast: So You Think You Can Dance edition of the new season! That’s right, it’s summer and all things are right in the world. SYTYCD is back and so is our podcast.

This week we talk about the new All-Stars format, how we think its going so far and what it’s like without Mary Murphy as a permanent Judge.

Season 7 has brought us a whole new crop of dancers which means it’s time to talk new SYTYCD Boyfriends. Oh, we’ll talk about the dancing as well.

In this episode we tackle the Top 10 performance episode, go crazy about the Judges comments and simply gush over little Kent Boyd.

  3. Is there a chance that we and the Woo crew could have been overreacting? Just heard from Korbi and she didn’t think the criticism was that bad.

By Kath (GMMR) on Jun 24, 2010

  4. Not a chance. I was just going to say I thought the same exact thing about the criticism! Also I really really don’t like Melinda. I just recently found you guys and I feel like I’ve met my TV Critic soulmates!

  5. Deaf people don’t use braille! You guys are hilarious.
I thought the judges were crazy from the beginning. For Cristina, one of the judges said something about “you need to be hot and have control” and I was thinking that she was hot w/o control, and that was a good way of saying it. But then the judge continued with “you had both!” and I was rolling my eyes.
Adechike was better than last week. Though I think that Travis’s choreography was the problem last week because it was heavily focused on the girl.
Alex had lame choreography but did well with it (better than Lauren, I thought). Judges’ criticism of him was ridiculous.
Ashley’s dance didn’t seem to match what Travis said it was going to be about, and there were too many lifts. The judges calling Travis out was dumb, as the contemp/jazz line has never really been drawn before. Wade especially seems to do whatever he wants no matter what dance type he is given.
Billy Bell hit all the moves but didn’t have the attitude. When he was supposed to be looking like he was into Comfort I was laughing. Totally unbelievable.
I agree about Robert, the judges were on crack. I thought he was great and held his own with Anya.
I missed Melinda’s dance, so no comment there.
Jose was soooo off, and I was bummed because I loved the choreography and concept. I wish I could see it danced with actual Bollywood dancers.
Lauren’s was danced well, but I am so sick of the “message” dances. I couldn’t wait for it to be over. Mia’s comments were weird about wanting more violence (esp. if that wasn’t how it was choreographed).
I liked Kent’s dance. He seemed very connected with Courtney when they were close together, but when they split apart he seemed to focus on the steps and lose character. Still love him though.
Really, I like most of the dances the first time, but when they recap all of them at the end, I realize that I don’t LOVE any of them. There aren’t any I need to see again. I think that having all stars means better overall dances, but I’m expecting more too. Pasha and Mark had some hard lifts, but I wasn’t super impressed because they are all stars, so of course they should catch their partners, you know?

  6. OOOOOMMMMMFFFFFGGGGG I’m pissing myself! Not only was I being ridonkulously un-PC in my comments, I mistook deaf for blind. I’m DYING with laughter. Tears streaming down my face, sweat pouring down my back, short of breath laughing hysterically!

By Ducky on Jun 24, 2010

  7. Okay. See, here’s the problem with the podcasts. They are brilliant for getting me through part of my boring work day. But then I just about implode from trying not to laugh at my desk!!

As for the show, I thought the judging was a little off, but I love the way you explained what OFF really means. I don’t know that you need to pipe bomb them, but yeah, they could be less hypocritical.

And Cat and Dom ALWAYS crack me up!

  8. You guys are hilarious, loved the podcast!

By SaraK on Jun 24, 2010

  9. OMG, you guys are frakkin’ hilarious. Your shenanigans are so entertaining! Whitney Googled “Alison Holker- She’s lived a lot of life!!!!” Almost died!!! Kath- you want to buy a little black boy!!??
I very much agree about the judges and am so glad that Korbi is going to call them out for it!
Ugly Betty wasn’t bad for me! Melinda and Pasha were good- I wasn’t surprised with the judges remarks- though the lighting and music totally helped.
Alison brings all of the dancers she works with up a notch- love her. Adechike was beautiful, but I couldn’t help watching her.
Tasty Oreo’s Fosse routine was great, but it definitely wasn’t Alex’s best. Technically great and I think the judges were smoking crack for ripping him up about not being Super-Fosse! Like the point made about him dancing it similarly to Lauren…Hmm…And Nigel talking about Alex’s shoulders, then saying it was the jacket???
Travis’ routine- Ashley worked it. Mark was great(though I love him most in Sonya routines). BTW- Usually, they call it lyrical jazz when they basically want to do a contemporary routine and call it jazz.
Billy B Buck- Poor baby- think he did as well as he could- tried so hard!!! It was sweet that Comfort tried to defend him as well.
Robert- Hot, Hot, Hot! But that puking thing killed it! I thought Robert was great though…and wanted to scream at Mia.
Mother Earth routine- one- that dress was atrocious. two- soap actress- need I say more! Why are they pimping her- just to leave a tapdancer on the show???
Bollywood was fun, but that was not cutting it. Poor little Jose. Joshua- I’m sorry guys, but Joshua DID have way more training than Jose. I loved me some Joshua, but you cannot compare them- apples and oranges! Jose looked so out of his element.
Lauren’s swayback- Mia saying it was a nice butt…hilarious! And Mia saying it needed more abuse- ridiculous! And Kat asking Dom about going deeper- OMG!
Kent trying to be sexy- so cute! Technically, great routine, but he just couldn’t do the character. Courtney was very cute telling him he was sexy and Kat asking if there was a Sexy Kent there…priceless! Loved how he said in the pre-tape that Courtney just let him touch her and didn’t care…busting up!
My top three- Ashley and Mark, Alison and Adechike, Robert and Anya.
Deaf Braille users- your life sucks!!!! You guys are redonkulous!!!!!
    Long live Season 15!!!

  10. Oops, I meant Christina/Ugly Betty….SOOOO didn’t mean to say Melinda and Pasha!

  11. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This podcast should come with a Warning: do not listen to this in your open cubicle on head phones at work. Your co-workers will look at you funny when you can’t stop laughing and tears a running down your face.

By ColoradoKila on Jun 24, 2010

  12. Oh my Podcast! I ADORE you guys! You kill me with the laughter, honking and Eclipse references! Kath, kudos for your cramazing photoshop skills! Billy Bell so is Peter Pan, how cute was he on the Mia routine a couple weeks ago? Of COURSE he’d be the child in that routine about life (which Alison has lived a lot of! lulz).

Please do this as often as you can, it gives me so much joy just listening to you talk.

  13. Hi Dan! Hi Kath! Love that the SYTYCD podcasts are back! You two are the reason I got into this show! This podcast did not disappoint. I almost died at work trying to stifle my laughter. :)

Totally agree with yall’s take on the season so far. The judges are all over the place.

Keep up the great work! GO KENT!

By Sarah on Jun 24, 2010

  14. Okay. So here’s my thoughts. I used to dance for a really long time, and I’ve loved SYTYCD since I first saw it. Oh my God.
    So anyways. Here’s my thoughts.
On Jose. This is what I thought. When I watched him dance, I just could not stop smiling. He was trying so hard, and he didn’t fit.
You guys said yourself that Billy tried hard on Krumping and you thought that it was weird but hey at least he tried.
Jose was trying so hard and he was having so much fun. The judges comments may have gone a little overboard, but I agreed with them in spirit. I would so much rather watch Jose than Melinda (who reminds me of that stupid ballet dancer from a season or two ago who they all loved. GODIHATEDHERTOO)
As for Alex. WTF? He totally deserved praise again. The judges have to be pushing him down on purpose.
And Kent. He tried so hard. When he said he could be sexy and Cat lost it I died a little inside of happiness. He is just so adorable.
Honestly, I’m not feeling any of the girls this season. Lauren, tonight, I totally thought she was faking sadness so she could get kudos and the judges picked up on it which is why they critiqued her. I don’t know. I just don’t like her. She seems fake, or plasticy. And she perked right up for those numbers
Maybe its just me. But thats how I feel.
    Also, you guys are hilarious.

By Sonja on Jun 25, 2010

  15. I think Dom and Cat need to go on the Amazing Race together. How freaking great would that be?

I hate Melinda and now I am pissed that she is still on the show. I just don’t get her. At all. I am not really feeling the girls that much. I LOVE Kent. He is so fun to watch and is so full of life! I really felt that Jose should have been in the bottom three for just not doing Bollywood correctly. But I am sure he will go far since he has a good personality.

I really think the All Stars are doing what Nigel had hoped. They are bringing a higher quality of dance to my TV (except for Comfort I hated her then and I still find my hate for her distracting so any guy that dances with her will not be watched)

Can’t wait to hear what Dan thought of the All Star performance piece with naked boys and girls in diapers.

By Patty on Jun 25, 2010

  16. OMG BILLY BELL IS FUCKING PETER PAN!!!! That is the funniest thing I have ever seen in my life. This was possibly the best TV Talk podcast ever. You turned a deaf person into freakin Helen Keller! I hate Melinda and I hate Lauren. I’m so glad you guys hate them too.

By Randi on Jun 25, 2010

  17. OMG this podcast was amazing!! I agree on legit every dance. I was trying SO hard not to laugh during the little black boy and deaf parts. You guys are amazing!
