  2. I don’t care that you’re late, ’cause now I have a podcast to listen to on my birthday! I thought that I didn’t care who won until Lauren won, then I was a little bummed for Kent.

    My top 5 are:
    Neal & Kent – Contemp
Twitch & Alex – Hip Hop
    Ade & Billy – Contemp
    Allison & Robert – Contemp
Comfort & Adechike – Hip Hop or Kent & Lauren – Contemp

The Mia controversy also was because of the “too African” comment, I think. I don’t think she’s a racist, I just think she lets her personal history cloud her judgment of some of the dances. I don’t like her at all, but especially as a judge.

I do like the all stars, but I don’t know how only dancing in the top 10 will help. I thought part of the reason they were brought in was so we didn’t have shit routines for the first few weeks when two people were dancing not in their specialties. I didn’t love this season. Not as bad as season 4, but pretty close.

  3. The origin of Tasty Oreo: This came from a comment on the Television Without Pity boards because of how Cat said his name with her accent.

  4. @Dawn – I missed the “African” comment completely.

@Deej – Thanks for the background on Tasty!

  5. i was also bummed for Kent but have you seen his homecoming? Both Botkins and Wapkaneta really rallied around him. I think he got more attention then Lauren!

  6. By the way thanx for the podcast and love the idea of an aftershow with bloopers and behind the scenes footage!

  7. Was just able to finish the podcast over lunch.
I do like the notion of having a top 20 then bringing in the all-stars at the top 10.

I also really, really, REALLY wish they’d bring the old stage design back. I liked the more intimate setting it provided. At least I can get back to that with SYTYCD Canada, which just started this week.

Overall I really wanted Kent to win but am still pleased with the Lauren victory. I’m still not totally sold on Robert but with his hip hop with Dom and the Mark duo that has warmed me up a bit to him.

  8. Thanks for the wrap-up podcast! I would have liked you to call out the show for AGAIN disrespecting the 2nd place finisher (hello, Twitch!) by just shoving poor Kent off the stage. What IS it with the FOX reality shows? I don’t even watch Idol, but they are famous for not finishing on time. SYTYCD doesn’t rate as high so they don’t have the opportunity to run long..instead they just cut out the chance for Kent and Lauren to speak after all the weeks of hard work. It is shameful IMO.

I would love to see a season where the All-Stars were all the past winners! Wouldn’t that be fun?

Next season I think Robert would be the best choice for an All-Star spot. He’s strong enough to lift the girls and soooo good!

I don’t think there is any chance that Alex would come back as a contestant because he’s been such a constant throughout this season. Ashley, on the other hand, wasn’t even shown or mentioned more than once or twice in her final episode and we haven’t seen or heard her name since (a 1 second clip maybe).

  9. I really felt bad for Kent since they built him up to EXPECT to win, but I think Lauren hit home run after home run this season and there really was no one better all around. She may be the most versatile dancer to win other than Joshua! I miss this season already!

  10. Great podcast! Totally agree that Lauren was the underdog but was so powerful, sexy, versitile and consistent throughout the season. I especially loved her solos like the Natural Woman one, some of the best solos ever in this show IMO. Agreed with Adam about the way she hears and dances to music, so amazing and dance moves I’ve never seen before.

I agreed with your top dances for the season but wanted to include the contemporary number by Ashley and Ade in Week 4 by Dee Caspary, I love this routine.

Some All-Stars that I would like to see on next season: Katee, Ellenore and Jacob

Great season, now off to watch SYTYCD Canada.

  11. Thanks for the podcast, not much to say but pleased with Lauren winning – it was a pleasant surprise after all the Kent love.

The one thing I was really glad about was the way they treated Alex’s hip hop routine. I was feeling so protective of that routine, and didn’t want to see it being danced by anyone except Alex, so thought that bringing in Ellen as a non-dancer was a nice touch, and a great way to deal with it.

All in all good season, liked the all stars format, be curious to see how they mix it up, and use it next season.

  12. This season was really good, and I’m so happy with Lauren as the winner. I think that even though Kent was adorable and ridiculously good at contemporary, Lauren was good at everything. She could do hip hop, broadway, ballroom, and contemportary like a pro. I never really bought Kent in hip hop and ballroom, but I still love him.

I think my favorite performances this season was the prom dance, Fix You, Comforts and Adechike, Neal and Kent’s backstabbing one, and the homeless routine. I was really disappointed that they didn’t do the prom dance in the finale. And Kent and Anya’s cha cha was really unnecessary in the finale.

I really liked this season and the top 3 were all phenomenal, and I really happy for LoFro.

OMG I just remembered that I didn’t mention Alex and Twitch’s hip hop, totally the best of the season!

  13. Also, I think this season has some of the strongest solos ever seen to date on this series (as a whole).

My biggest hope is to have Brandon and Janette on as All-Stars! I’ve had enough of Anya and I’d love to see Dimitri if he’s not too busy with DWTS or choreographing.

I would be fine with Mary Murphy coming back with Adam and Nigel, anything to get Mia back choreographing and WHERE THE F IS WADE ROBSON? Get him back on the show! Thank goodness Nappy Tabs saved this season without the best two choreographers being involved. I really expected to come away disappointed, but I’m so happy with this season.

  14. I’m SO happy Lauren won! In a season dominated by males and clear favoritism for Kent, Lauren’s hard work paid off! \o/

Despite all the injuries I loved this season. Great dances and personalities. Now Mia just needs to stop being a judge and coreograph more. Bring back Mary as a permanent judge too.
